By consulting this section, you can easily get an idea of the “obligatory costs” relating to the transports necessary to export and import a vehicle from the United States to Europe. However, it is our standard procedure to always prepare specific quotes for each client.
SHIPMENTS WITHIN THE U.S.A.
Inland shipping rates — with collection from the location of the purchased vehicle to our shipping agent’s warehouse/port of shipment — are calculated on a case-by-case basis, always without any markup by A&M Garage, as are all other mandatory expenses. It’s possible to choose whether to have the vehicle collected with an open or a closed truck; in both cases, transportation insurance is included.
OCEAN FREIGHT US-NL
Through the specialized transport company we work with, an indication of costs for ocean freight (OFR) – in shared and sealed container, including vehicle preparation, loading, and US port fees – are, for example:
HOUSTON, TX – ROTTERDAM / AMSTERDAM, NL: starting from 1,000 USD per car;
NY/NJ – ROTTERDAM / AMSTERDAM, NL: starting from 800 USD per car;
LOS ANGELES, CA – ROTTERDAM / AMSTERDAM, NL: starting from 1,200 USD per car;
MIAMI, FL – ROTTERDAM / AMSTERDAM, NL: starting from 1,000 USD per car;
Motorcycles: starting from 450 USD (each)
Even for the OFR, the cost of all shipments is always specifically estimated on a case-by-case basis. Container transport insurance is not included and amounts to 1.5% of the declared value of the vehicles with a deductible of USD 500.

In the Netherlands – where there is a reduced import taxesfor vehicles aged 30 years or older – our European agents and partners will handle every aspect of the import on our customer’s behalf, and, where possible and if requested, also the registration offer.
We no longer ship OFR directly to Italy due to high costs and long shipping times. We do not recommend RO/RO transport (“bridge spot”) – this option must be agreed upon.
FYI: There is a remote possibility that at any time one or both of U.S. and Dutch customs authorities may require mandatory random container inspections: all actual costs will be borne by the customer (and any related delays are unforeseeable).
SHIPMENTS FROM THE NETHERLANDS
Vehicle shipments from the Netherlands to Europe are made from our Dutch partners’ base directly to the addresses provided by our customers, with transport via open truck. The exact cost is estimated on a case-by-case basis and includes travel insurance; delivery times will be communicated and agreed upon with the customer via email.
Typically, a rate starting from €0.90/km is applied, except for some “package areas” such as Italy and Switzerland, and always at the request of the European carrier. For example:
– North Italy area: starting from 950 euro;
– Firenze, IT area: starting from 1.050 euro;
– Switzerland: starting from 700 euro;
– Other European Countries: starting from 0,90 euro/Km.
Transport in a closed truck is available upon request; cost always to be calculated specifically.

Once all invoices relating to the “EU part” have been paid, the following will be sent to the customer or the agency we work with: the original Title or EU registration documents (see dedicated section); the invoice of duties paid; and the receipt of duty clearance for the nationalization of the vehicle. Express courier shipping cost: 45 euro.
