When you start looking for classic cars or motorcycles that you would like to see in your garage, the first thing you need to think about is: what would I like and what can I do. That is, understand what you want to buy and what you can really buy. We know, it seems trivial, but we can assure you that very often it is not…
Since the beginning of our business as A&M Garage towards the end of 2009, formalized as an LLC in 2010, there have been quite a few somewhat “confusing” requests that we have received.
Some examples to give you an idea of what we mean: “I would like an original Shelby Eleanor, or a Mustang coupe”; “I would be interested in an American car like the one in the film, but if it costs too much, something similar is fine”; or again: “I’m looking for a 1940s type car, preferably a convertible, I have 4.000 Euros to spend in total”; “I am looking for a muscle car to restore that is in working order, complete, rust-free and with the interior in good condition; I have a budget of 3.000 euros.”
For many of you these requests may seem absurd, but we guarantee that they happen and not even that rarely. So, in our opinion, it is often better to first get informed to understand what we would like to buy, and then understand if we can afford it from an economic point of view.
Also because the market changes, evolves and we read proposals and discourses of all kinds online, but we must pay attention, even to the adverts or posts we find.
You can dream without limits, however, in this type of operation it’s always necessary to do it with a minimum of knowledge of the facts and evaluating – in terms of expense – both everything that concerns the vehicle and what export/import involves. Also remembering that for negotiations it is important to be timely in proceeding when the right deal is found, but it is also essential to have the patience to think through every aspect in depth; even better, as we explained in this article, if you do it together with experts in the field.
